In collaboration with WIU students Paul Guzzardo’s “Iterations
of Interface”, made art and theatre out of a 1950's surveillance
data bank. The once secret, now public, FBI files of stage personality
Josephine Baker and her relationship with J. Edgar Hoover and radio
personality Walter Winchell were activated for visitors to wear,
map and dance with. The exhibition and events were held in conjunction
with the one-hundredth anniversary of Josephine Baker's birth.

Three venues were explored as part of the Western Illinois University
secretbaker cycle:

at the gallery. And as often is the case, “the what and the
why” of what did not happen is probably more illuminating
than what did.
